The catalogue is half menswear and half womenswear, with the direction in which you hold it determining which you are looking at, making it both interesting and compact in its design.

We handled the print management of this big project, making sure that the paper was the correct quality and finish and of course making sure that the colours in the catalogue match up to the product colours. As you will appreciate, colour consistency between advertising and product is crucial!

To browse the new collection online, please visit their website to see what they have to offer.

What Can We Do Today is a magazine aimed at families with primary school aged children who are looking for things to do in the holidays in Leicestershire, who like helpful, informative articles and of course who like a bargain!

This, issue 12, of What Can We Do Today was designed, produced and print managed by the team at Mulberry Square; we even gave a helping hand to the copywriting! It was distributed at the beginning of this week to primary schools around Charnwood, including a few schools who haven’t received it before. It features various articles ranging from health to entertainment with a generous helping of discount vouchers and competitions thrown in too.

The New Website

On top of the work our marketing services team completed for the magazine, our web design lot were busy converting the old website over to a brand new Wordpress based site. What Can We Do Today is now a great website for reading reviews of places to visit in the area, for entering competitions to win tickets to local attractions, or just for finding cheaper deals at local businesses and places to go!

Why not try it now for some ideas about what you can do today….

Mulberry Square was recently asked to print manage a wedding photography booklet, “A Guide To Posing”. We were supplied with the digital artwork and the copy for the booklet and were tasked to find the right printer, paper, finishing and binding to perfectly complement the images contained within.

With such important images; those of a bride and groom on their wedding day, it was essential that the colour management of this booklet was perfect. The effects of the lighting on people’s faces can make or break an image and so our pre-flighting expertise was key to ensuring the look of this booklet lived up to its potential. Happily, as we at Mulberry Square always employ cutting edge digital proofing – to FOGRA standards – you can rest assured that your printing will always be picture perfect.

By this time today we should have been nailing some great shots for the Spring/Summer 2010 catalogue for The Collar Company, a mail order and online retailer of high quality ladies shirts and knitwear.
Unfortunately, due to the bad weather, we had to postpone the shoot for two weeks last Thursday as it was felt too hazardous for all of the parties involved to get to the location in Staffordshire safely and on time.
This was the first time that we had been tasked with laddering the shoot with two models so that the shoot could be limited to one day. We have worked many times with our models, Tracy Bailey and Lucy Knight, and can’t wait to work with them again.

RE: Xerox's iGen4 has the colour accuracy to take digital print into packaging, Andrew Tribute, PrintWeek, 27 November 2009.

RE: Xerox’s iGen4 has the colour accuracy to take digital print into packaging, Andrew Tribute, PrintWeek, 27 November 2009

In response to this article I emailed Andrew Tribute to clarify a point.

AT: “the really interesting comment came when comparing colour variance from iGen3 to iGen4: the variance was only one Delta E Colour, variance between offset presses typically measures between three and five Delta E.”

CJ: “I believe that I am correct in saying that digital print is not encompassed within the framework set out by 12647-2. However, as you talk of variance, which is an impressive level produced by the iGen4, is the target Delta E comparable to the one set out for offset? And as such how do the printed results compare to the naked eye?”

AT: “I really cannot answer the question as my quote was taken from the quality control manage of one of the leading and largest photobook suppliers in the world. They have HP Indigo 5500, Xerox iGen3 and iGen4 presses. His comment was purely on measurement of the results on the iGen4 taking account of page to page repeatability over a run. Since the company does not run any offset they cannot comment on how the output compares. In terms of 12647 digital print is not covered within 12647-2 nor in any of the other iterations of 12647. One day perhaps it will be! Sorry I cannot be of more help.” He adds, “One additional point. The variance of 1 delta E is better than can be achieved by offset however this is not surprising as there are far fewer variables in the digital process than the offset process.”

Well it appears that that day is about to arrive as prompted by this article gleaned from Printspeak.

This lead me to check it out with the ISO and it would appear that ISO12647-8 is ‘under review’ – The dawn of another new era I suspect!

I refer to this article dated 29th October 2009.

An oversight or a cock up? I commend Heidelberg for their effort but to what end? I find it pretty difficult to criticise what I and many deem to be the standard bearers in terms of printing press manufacture – 95% of the presses our partners in print employ are made by Heidelberg, and why? Because these printers can, when using ISO12647 accredited papers supplied by Howard Smith Papers, match our contract proofs, ran through a GMG/Epson system and calibrated to FOGRA 39L – the ISO12647 standard for proofing. In their attempt to align themselves with the ISO12647-2 colour management standard Heidelberg have scored a bit of an own goal!

The word on the street is that Heidelberg have a deal in place with Robert Horne for the supply of paper – well done Robert Horne but really, how can it be that they thought that nobody would pick up on the fact that the papers used in the guide do not meet the criteria set by the ISO? The result – a colour guide with a price tag of £50.00 that does not meet the standards set by the ISO!
